Recently, my Grandparents moved into a nursing home. So, my family has been going through a lot of their stuff to see what's worth saving.
I quickly took all of my grandma's recipes and three old cookbooks. That's the benefit of being the only female grandaughter. Outside of my mom and aunt, no one else cares about that stuff. My cousins were more concerned with the travel urinal my Grandfather had. Evidently they'll use it when they fish. I'm not buying it though. 14 year old boys shouldn't be trusted with something like that.
So, since I have all these newly acquired recipes, my self proclaimed summer project is to take all of my Grandmother's recipes and put them into a word document. I then plan on sending it to my family. Maybe if I'm ambitious, I'll have them bound and make a real cookbook.
I'd love to save all of my grandma's recipe cards, but I know they won't last. This way, I'll have a permanent record and the whole family can have her recipes. Then someday when my cousins and brother get married, I can give it to thier wives. Neat, huh? I think so.
Actually, what I am most excited about iso ne of the cookbooks I scored in the process. It is the Quamba Baptist Church Cookbook from 1982. It's a CLASSIC! It has a ton of my family's (other side though) recipes. I am so excited to have my own copy. It's got some great recipes from my aunts, great aunts, and cousins. Who knew you could be so excited about a cookbook?
